Spring Break Extra Credit Activities

Activity 1:  Click on this link to head to the New York Times website.  Use the resources provided to answer the 5 questions on the page.

Activity 2:   Create a children's book telling the story of one of the following Cold War events:

  • McCarthyism
  • The Korean War
  • Cuban Missile Crisis
  • Space Race
  • Vietnam War
  • Kennedy

Your book must have at least 10 pages, and each page needs to have a picture and at least one sentence.  The more effort is put in, the more points you will receive.

Activity 3:  Watch one of the following movies and write a 1-2 page essay that details:

  • What the movie was about
  • which aspect of the Cold War it references
  • how historically accurate you think it was (did you see anything that stood out as being inaccurate?)
  • What message it sends about the event/period
  • whether you would recommend it to a history class and why
